Le bistrot and the Japonese room.

Last month, I decided to recreate a French bistrot. In my mind, it was a small local café, like thousands we had in France. Most of them have disappeared today. Before the 70's, almost every street had one bistrot or more. Workers would go there before work for a glass of wine. At lunch time, neighbours and friends would gather for an "apéritif", and later people would come for a "café noir" we call espresso today. Amazone didn't exist then...

There was one opposite the house where I grew up. I can remember its odor, even 60 years later. That bistrot was also a small grocery store.

Some tables, chairs, mirror, a counter and shelves. That was it, no juke box or TV screen. Large cafés sometimes had a French billiard.

This is my bistrot...... Do you like it?

And the last one.... I created the main room of a Japanese house. I have never been to Japan but I searched Pinterest for pictures. Most of the structure is wood and rice paper. While I was building it, I learnt a lot about Japanese houses.

Some Japanese on Instagram told me that it really looked like an authentic Japanese room... Here we go.

Don't forget to leave a word as a comment, even "Hi from....." so that I can see if anyone reads my post. A big thank you!

  1. I am still here, although I too have not been posting much. I still prefer blogs to IG - I like a story, and there is just too much on IG to take in. Your projects all look amazing, and it's good to see you still making minis.

  2. Hello Shannon.
Thank you for replying to my post. It seems that blogging has slowly disappeared from the realm of miniaturists. I miss reading from other miniaturists. I agree that posting photos on Instagram is much easier than writing a blog and adding pictures. Writing a blog is more time-consuming, of course, but so much more interesting.
    I'll continue posting!

  4. Hi Patrick! I am still blogging pretty regularly, but it is a diminished world. I Love your Japanese house! And the Bistro looks so real. I could almost walk inside! I don't do instagram. But I am glad to see you are still making miniatures! Keep up the wonderful work! :)

  5. Hello, I just discovered your blog about creating miniature worlds and it's already one of my favorites. Everything is absolutely delightful and strikingly realistic. I'd like to know how you made the tatami mats in the Japanese room, as I'm currently building a traditional Japanese house at 1/12th scale, entirely out of wood with sliding rice paper doors, but I don't know what material to use for the tatami mats. Thank you in advance for your reply, and congratulations on your creations!
